The stunning picture was taken by NASA's Hubble space telescope which is celebrating it's 36th birthday this week. Situated about 5,000 light-years from Earth, is a star-formation region called the Trifid Nebula which Hubble captured in all its cosmic wonder.

Astronomers have found the brightest object in the universe – a'hellish' black hole that consumes a star a day. Described as'the most hellish place in the universe', the black hole is 12 billion light years away and has a mass roughly 17 billion times that of our solar system's sun. Due to their immense gravitational pull, black holes grow in mass by capturing nearby material, whether it's stars, planets and even other black holes. The matter being pulled in toward this black hole, known as J0529-4351, forms a whopping disc that measures seven light-years in diameter. All galaxies have a supermassive black hole at their cores.


James Webb Telescope captures iconic 'Pillars of Creation'

The world's largest and most powerful space telescope has captured the iconic Pillars of Creation, huge structures of gas and dust teeming with stars, according to NASA. The James Webb Space Telescope has taken its first shot of the gigantic gold, copper and brown columns standing within the vast Eagle Nebula, 6,500 light years away from Earth, the United States space agency said in a statement on Wednesday. NASA's Hubble Space Telescope first captured images of the Pillars in 1995. But thanks to Webb's infrared capabilities, the newer telescope – launched into space less than a year ago – can peer through the opacity of the Pillars, revealing new stars forming. The Webb images show bright red, lava-like spots at the ends of several Pillars.

NASA's Spitzer Telescope captured an image of what looks like flames ripping through the black void of space. The picture highlights the Perseus Molecular Cloud, which is a massive collection of gas and dust that stretches over 500 light-years across. The fiery glow is a result of infrared radiation from warm dust and clusters of stars that'illuminate the surrounding clouds like the Sun lighting up a cloudy sky at sunset.' The Perseus Molecular Cloud is home to an abundance of young stars and is located on the edge of the Perseus Constellation. It contains over 10,000 solar masses of gas and dust covering an area of size by two degrees.
